Field Disability Volunteer

Key Responsibilities

The volunteer will support Action for Health, Education and Disability (AHEAD) International community disability programme for disabled and disadvantaged young people by assisting staff during planned outreach visits, helping young people take part in group activities and basic learning/inclusion sessions, encouraging safe participation, and providing routine practical support under direct staff supervision in community settings.

The volunteer will be undertaking community disability fieldwork which contributes directly to the achievement or advancement of the AHEAD’s charitable purpose.

Person Specification – Essential Qualifications and Experience

● Minimum of secondary education or equivalent.
● Interest or experience (paid or voluntary) in disability support, youth work, or community services.
● Willingness to undertake safeguarding, inclusion, and disability-awareness training.
● Ability to follow instructions and work under direct supervision.
● Good interpersonal and communication skills in English.
● Patient, empathetic, and committed to inclusive practice.
● Physically and emotionally able to support group-based community activities.


AHEAD International engages volunteers to support its charitable activities. All voluntary roles are unpaid. No salary or remuneration is provided in line with section 44 of the UK National Minimum Wage Act; reasonable out-of-pocket expenses only. The volunteer will not be filling a permanent position and will not be involved in routine back office administrative roles, retail or other sales roles, fund-raising roles and roles involved in the maintenance of the charity office and other assets.
